Dementia Friendly Accommodation
Dementia care presents specific challenges and requires much more than simply carrying out a series of practical tasks.
Our residents have the opportunity to move around safely and enjoy their home to the full thanks to defined areas, the use of colour contrast and appropriate signage that is clearly worded and pictorially illustrated.
We understand the importance of access to the outdoors as it provides the opportunity for exercise, fresh air, relieves tension and anxiety and offers personal space for reflection and privacy.
CCTV
Through family feedback and then by consulting staff and residents alike, we introduced CCTV to all communal areas. The introduction has increased trust with all stakeholders and has been a success whereby matters and concerns have been addressed positively. Given our client group , there are incidents without witnesses so CCtv has given insights where to improve and build relationships with family, or often the case alleviate concerns.
Even though introduced over a year ago, we are still one of the only homes to take this bold step in North Essex.
Charming Corner Lodge
Corner Lodge is beautifully furnished, set in charming sensory garden, close to the sea and local amenities. The home has recently been upgraded to offer excellent and homely accommodation. The comfort and happiness of our residents is our prime concern.
The home is purpose built and designed to provide specialist dementia care in a comfortable, bright & secure environment. We operate a keypad security system to access and/or exit the building or any of the 3 floors, ensuring 24 hour safety of the residents. A lift is available.
The Lounges
There are five well proportioned light and airy lounges with televisions and music systems. Residents are encouraged to move around freely within these lounges so as to promote their independence. The lounges are tastefully decorated and comfortable, with well positioned seating to enable social interaction.
The residents also have access to the computer and the internet including ‘Skype’ in the main lounge to provide that continuous stimulation and enhancement of life skills.
The Gardens
Our gardens are maintained with beautiful flower beds. encouraging our residents to sit outside and enjoy the tranquil surroundings The gardening club allows the residents to join in and contribute to the home, as though it was their own.
Our Home Manager Millie is our on site Gardener! Escaping when she can to tend her beloved garden and surrounding area of this.
We have our very own Garden Club, where residents can plant fruit and vegtables and enjoy watching them grow and then harvest their consumption!
The Rooms
The dining area is tastefully decorated and looks out onto the garden. Hot and cold drinks are available 24 hours.
We have 46 very spacious and well-decorated rooms. The majority have en suite facilities and views of the sea or of fields. Residents are welcome and encouraged to bring their own belongings to make them feel more at home. The residents have a choice of either a walk in shower or the use of an assisted bathroom. Our carers also provide assistance with dressing, dining and mobility, as required.
Corner Lodge Express
The idea was to convert a little used lounge on the ground floor to an immersive reminiscence activity area by the construction of a train carriage (with video & windows), station platform, and a station garden seating area. We were featured on BBC Look East & BBC Radio Essex for this innovative idea.
In the past, we had small displays and artwork of life, advertising, news items that the Residents would remember from their childhood and as adults with a family of their own. This resulted in quick comments or brief conversations, fleeting moments in the Residents day. The Corner Lodge Express and Station is a complete package. The video shown is of scenery and generic cities that someone would see as a train was in route to a destination. We are currently looking for additional videos of other journeys (e.g.: Paris and other European cities, London area, etc).
The Lodge (Bar)
Introducing our newest feature to the care home where all residents can feel like they are at the pub! Here they are able to chill and watch Sports on the TV whilst ordering their favourite tipple. The Lodge Bar is also popular with families and friends at our many parties we hold here.
Quiet Sun Lounge
Our beautiful Sun Lounge at the front of the care home is a great space for not only a bit of peace and quiet for our residents who prefer to take time out, it is also a private area for families to visit their loved ones. It can also be hired for events such as birthdays and anniversary celebrations, plus we can set it up for special events such as Mothers day and Fathers day where our residents are pampered with spa's, facials, nibbles, and of course a glass of something bubbly!
Activity Corner
The Activity Corner is a wonderful space for our residents to immerse themselves in a wide range of Arts and Crafts, Reading, Writing, Baking and also use our interactive TV where they can feed fish, play virtual games and even talk to family members via zoom!
