Millard House Service

Dining

Our chefs prepare a delicious choice of freshly cooked meals. Seasonal meetings are held with the residents to obtain their feedback as to their likes and dislikes. We have a set menu which changes on rotation every 4 weeks. The menus are prepared by our experienced chefs following discussions with the manager, and feedback obtained from the residents.

Light refreshments, snacks, and fruit are available.

The home receives nutrition training and advice. We are provided with books to guide us with the planning of the meals, ensuring a correct balance is maintained, calories are considered etc. The home caters for each residents’ dietary requirements. All our meals are cooked from fresh ingredients every day.

Families and friends are encouraged to join the residents for meals, as this helps maintains our residents’ identity and quality of life.

Our Activities

At Millard House, we provide our residents with ongoing opportunities for stimulation. Our well planned award winning entertainment and activities programme is designed with this in mind.

Activities are fun, varied & exciting, providing fulfilment and happiness. Our daily activities organised by our coordinator include arts and crafts, quizzes, jigsaws, puzzles, the gardening club, nail care, activities on the Wii and other sensory related activities.

Our Reminiscing and sensory room has been designed specifically to encourage positivity, and reduce anxiety. Our residents are encouraged to reminisce and explore old memories. This we find not only helps to build their self confidence, but also keeps them engaged and exercises their communication. Our special Sensory Machine – designed to contain different lighting effects, touchable surfaces
and music.

At Millard House we recognise the importance of maintaining links with the outside community. To achieve this, the activities coordinator organises activities such as themed event days, fairs and fetes, outings to various places of interest, sherry mornings, tea dances, external singers, gospel church singing and church communion. Our links with the Braintree community and attempts to bring the ‘community into home’ are successfully growing. Residents are able to enjoy the company of other members of the community on a daily basis.

The home also encourages the residents to participate in celebrations such as Easter and Christmas with their family and friends. This provides them with reassurance, and the home away from home feeling.

Accommodation

Millard House has recently been upgraded to offer excellent and homely accommodation. The comfort and happiness of our residents is our prime concern.

The home is purpose built and designed to provide specialist care in a comfortable, bright & secure environment. We operate a keypad security system to access and/or exit the building, ensuring 24 hour safety of the residents. A lift is available.

There are five well proportioned light and airy lounges with televisions and music systems. Residents are encouraged to move around freely within these lounges so as to promote their independence. The lounges are tastefully decorated and comfortable, with well positioned seating to enable social interaction.

We understand the importance of access to the outdoors as it provides the opportunity for exercise, fresh air, relieves tension and anxiety and offers personal space for reflection and privacy.
The Millard House features a conservatory, bringing in the garden all year round, providing a soothing area for residents to relax in.

The dining area is tastefully decorated and looks out onto the garden. Hot and cold drinks are available 24 hours.

We have 41 bedrooms. The residents have a choice of either a walk in shower or the use of an assisted bathroom. Our carers also provide assistance with dressing, dining and mobility, as required.

Through family feedback and then by consulting staff and residents alike, we introduced CCTV to all communal areas. The introduction has increased trust with all stakeholders and has been a success whereby matters and concerns have been addressed positively. Given our client group , there are incidents without witnesses so CCtv has given insights where to improve and build relationships with family, or often the case alleviate concerns.

Even though introduced over a year ago, we are still one of the only homes to take this bold step in North Essex.
